Use this task to recover when an IOS XR install operation remains active or a Cisco Optical Network Controller activation job fails.
Recovery clears upgrade conditions that prevent SWIMU from continuing or retrying activation.
Cisco Optical Site Manager and Cisco Optical Network Controller cannot automatically terminate an IOS XR install operation that remains active on a device. A subsequent activation attempt cannot begin until the existing operation is resolved.
This condition can occur when a prerequisite, such as license compliance, prevents the install operation from completing.
Before you begin
Follow these steps to recover from an incomplete upgrade.
Procedure
-
Log in to the affected device.
-
Identify and resolve the condition that interrupted the install operation.
Example:
RP/0/RP0/CPU0:Perugia-70# show install request
Review the install request output for failure state, operation ID, veto reason, and next-step information.
-
Complete or terminate the existing IOS XR install operation as appropriate.
-
If the target software is already active and valid, commit the installation.
Example:
RP/0/RP0/CPU0:Perugia-70# install commit
-
Verify that no install operation remains in progress.
Example:
RP/0/RP0/CPU0:Perugia-70# show install request
The current activity must show that no install operation is in progress.
-
Retry or resume the SWIMU activation job.
Resolving the original condition does not automatically resume an interrupted IOS XR install operation.
-
If a Cisco Optical Network Controller activation job fails, review the job details and identify the underlying failure.
-
Correct the reported condition, and then verify the device software and install state.
-
Resume the existing activation job from the SWIMU application.
-
If the activation job reports a failure or stale status even though IOS XR and Cisco Optical Site Manager reached the target release, use the Nodes application in Cisco Optical Network Controller to resynchronize the affected Cisco Optical Site Manager nodes.
The incomplete upgrade condition is resolved, and Cisco Optical Network Controller can continue upgrade validation.
